Andy’s Captain’s Blog 2023
Hi All, April Fool’s Day was a Saturday and it fooled us all, thinking we were in for a dry spell!!
On the 4th of April I attended my first Junior’s match. My hat goes off to Roy who manages the juniors. It was fun to watch our up-andcoming golfers.
Also on the 4th was our quiz evening with the biggest attendance so far. Questions were prepared by Phil Porter who was also the question master for the evening. Richard Burt assembled the winning team, however sadly they did not do so well in ‘Play your cards right.’ Unlucky!!
Easter came soon after quiz night. The Easter scramble was well attended and was played in good spirit with young Joe Herbert’s team winning top prize, Ali Porter’s team finished 2nd with Francis Brewster’s team in 3rd place.
Sunday 23rd saw the 3rd round of the 4 Nations on St Georges day, with a very strong team from England. The other 3 nations found it hard to stay with them. Great result for England winning 16 out of the 18 matches – but they can still be caught!
The 23rd also saw our women’s golf taster day. Jeanie and her team have done an amazing job of running this event. We owe them a big thank you for trying to get more people involved in golf at Bishopswood.
The 25th saw the ladies play golf in the morning followed by afternoon cream tea. We also held a craft fair in the afternoon with lots of handcrafted goods for sale. It all went brilliantly, and we managed to raise nearly £300 for the Captain’s charity Aspire.
Thank you too all.
The 30th saw a junior putting competition run by Claire. It was well attended by a very enthusiastic group of youngsters. A fun filled afternoon. Well done, Claire.
I realise I have not said much about the senior’s section. That’s because they do such a fantastic job in organising their social side and golf matches, that I cannot add to their amazing efforts. Well done to all the senior players That’s it for April’s blog.
See you all again soon. Andy
